The manufacture of products or other options for commercial activities involve the operation of various buildings and structures: workshops, warehouses, workshops. The process of operation of such objects implies, among other things, maintaining a comfortable temperature for work. Since such buildings, as a rule, have a large area, special heating equipment is used to heat the premises, in particular, industrial boilers — hot water or steam. They are selected according to a pre-designed project.
Features of industrial heating equipment
To ensure the required temperature regime at industrial facilities, individual design is used, which takes into account the following characteristics of the structure:
- the presence of thermal insulation of the walls and roof of the building;
- ceiling height and the volume of the heated room;
- the type of equipment used that can affect the temperature regime (refrigeration units, melting or hardening furnaces in metallurgical plants);
- the optimal type of fuel for the operation of the boiler (when choosing fuel, the efficiency and fault tolerance of equipment are taken into account);
- compliance with the requirements of SanPiN 2019-2020;
- the presence of gates for transport and their equipment with thermal curtains.
Also, when developing an individual heating project, the power of the heating equipment is calculated. Industrial-type boilers include models whose power is more than 100 kW. When developing a heating project for such facilities, it is necessary to ensure compliance with SP 89.13330.2016 and SNiP 41-01-2003. These regulatory legal acts define the requirements for the design, construction, repair and modernization of boiler houses, as well as the requirements for operational safety.
Distinctive features of industrial boilers
When choosing an industrial boiler, you need to take into account a lot of nuances, since the equipment is classified according to several criteria.
By type of coolant
There are hot water and steam boilers. In the first case, water is used as a coolant, which circulates through pipes under high, but not critical pressure. In the second, the water is heated to the state of steam, which circulates through the pipes.
By type of energy carrier
Industrial boilers can use as fuel:
- liquid fuel (solar, fuel oil, mining);
- solid fuel (coal, firewood, pellets, wood chips);
- electricity (used in low-power industrial boilers);
- natural gas.
Sometimes biofuels are also used, but this type of energy carrier is relevant only for low-power boilers. These, according to GOST 20548-87, include installations with a capacity of up to 100 kW.
According to the principle of heat transfer

According to the method of transferring heat from an energy carrier to a heat carrier, boilers are fire-tube and water-tube. In the first case, heat exchange is carried out due to the fact that the pipe with hot combustion products (with superheated steam) is in the coolant. In the second case, heat transfer occurs due to the fact that the coolant is pumped through pipes that are heated from the burner.
