When choos­ing a heat meter, it is nec­es­sary to focus not only on the price, but also on the con­di­tions in which the device will oper­ate. Accord­ing to the prin­ci­ple of oper­a­tion, sev­er­al types of heat meter­ing devices are dis­tin­guished.



Mechanical meters for heating batteries

Mechanical counter per batteryDevices with a mechan­i­cal prin­ci­ple of oper­a­tion are also called tacho­me­t­ric. They can be of three types:

  • screw;
  • tur­bine;
  • wedge-shaped.

In cen­tral­ized heat­ing sys­tems, hot water is used as a heat car­ri­er. It is its quan­ti­ty that entered the in-house heat­ing sys­tem that takes into account the mech­a­nism itself.

For all heat meters of this type there are sev­er­al com­mon dis­ad­van­tages:

  • they are short-lived;
  • not par­tic­u­lar­ly accu­rate at low coolant flow;
  • sen­si­tive to the pres­ence of sus­pen­sions in the water, which is solved with a sim­ple strain­er;
  • not suit­able for hard water.

By cost tacho­me­t­ric devices the cheap­est. One of the most pop­u­lar is the ELF device, man­u­fac­tured in Poland. It con­sists of a tem­per­a­ture sen­sor, a tacho­me­t­ric meter and an elec­tric cal­cu­la­tor. On aver­age, the coun­ters of this com­pa­ny cost 80–90$.

Also, often for apart­ments they buy the ST-10 device, which, depend­ing on the desire of the con­sumer, can be equipped with a tacho­me­t­ric, ultra­son­ic or elec­tro­mag­net­ic flow meter. In addi­tion, the counter includes a cal­cu­la­tor and a ther­mo­cou­ple. Such devices cost about 90–100$.

Electromagnetic heat meters

Electromagnetic heat meterWhen water pass­es through a mag­net­ic field, an elec­tric cur­rent is gen­er­at­ed. This phe­nom­e­non under­lies the oper­a­tion of elec­tro­mag­net­ic heat meters. Such devices work with high accu­ra­cy when prop­er­ly con­nect­ed.

Fail­ures can occur for sev­er­al rea­sons:

  • for­ma­tion of an oxi­da­tion film on the con­tact sur­face;
  • impu­ri­ties in water;
  • exter­nal elec­tro­mag­net­ic field.
  • Their dis­ad­van­tage is the high price.

In addi­tion to ST-10 meters with a VSE-BI flow meter, the VOICE ТСР‑M devices in the ver­sion ТСР-033 or ТСР-034 with a VOICE ER flow meter oper­ate on the elec­tro­mag­net­ic prin­ci­ple. The cost of this device is at least 320 $.

Vortex counters for heat

Vortex counterIn these devices, the flow rate is tak­en into account on the basis of the analy­sis of vor­tices that are formed when water and even steam pass through obsta­cles. Indi­ca­tions can be dis­tort­ed:

Ultrasonic devices and prices

The prin­ci­ple of oper­a­tion of this device is based on mea­sur­ing the speed of pas­sage of ultra­sound through a liq­uid stream.

There are 4 types of ultra­son­ic devices:Ultrasonic metering device

  • fre­quen­cy;
  • cor­re­la­tion;
  • Doppler.

Sev­er­al dis­tort the tes­ti­mo­ny can:

  • scale in water;
  • scale in the coolant;

How to install a heat meter?The instal­la­tion of a heat meter­ing device can only be car­ried out by spe­cial­ists from an orga­ni­za­tion that has spe­cial doc­u­men­ta­tion autho­riz­ing such activ­i­ties. The entire instal­la­tion process is car­ried out in sev­er­al steps.

After that, the counter can be used. Its oper­a­tion includes trans­mis­sion of tes­ti­mo­ny. This pro­ce­dure can be car­ried out in sev­er­al ways:
